+ How It Works GitHub repo

Automated data collection, AI-powered analysis, and real-time analytics

Data Infrastructure

  • Automated nightly ETL pipeline collecting ~1,500+ posts/day via Reddit OAuth API
  • PostgreSQL database with normalized schema: reference tables, time-series snapshots, and post-level engagement data
  • Timezone-aware data collection ensuring accurate local-date attribution across all U.S. time zones

AI Integration

  • Claude API integration for automated content classification (topic, sentiment, content type)
  • Batch processing with confidence scoring and audit logging
  • Tag prevalence analysis enabling comparative content insights across communities

Analytics & Visualization

  • Rolling 7-day and 30-day averages with automated rank calculations across 50 states
  • Population-normalized metrics (subscribers per 10k, posts per capita) for meaningful cross-state comparison
  • Interactive charts with multi-dimensional exploration: scatter plots, bubble charts, trend lines
  • Dynamic filtering by region, population tier, and density quintile

Rankings based on 7-day rolling averages. Select a metric to re-rank.

Below shows the interaction between a State's population and its subreddit's subscriber and recent post counts. While a greater state population seems to lead to greater subscriber counts, it does not seem to insure greater post engagement.[future research: pop affect on like and comment engagement, New Jersey]

Recent Post Activity vs Subscribers by State Population

But by factoring in crude population density, a slightly more clear pattern emerges. States with greater population density seem to have more post engagement. But this signal is still mixed, with low density states still reaching the upper measures of post engagement. [future research: affects between state and city subreddits, New Jersey, other measures of density: metro areas over XXXX,]

Recent Post Activity vs Subscribers by Population Density

District of Columbia excluded, pop density 10x greater than next closest.
