Daniel Haines, Sussex County legend and the 14th Governor of the great state of New Jersey was born on this date in 1801. Practiced law in Newton and Hamburg; served in the legislature in 1839-40; elected governor in 1843; appointed to the NJ Supreme Court in 1852; buried at N. Hardyston Cemetery
